Allowing recovery writes will reset everything back to the default state, losing your root access. Once that happens, you’ll need to wait for a new custom recovery to install and boot from each update. Saving your updates won’t prevent this loss. Being new to Android, it’s good to understand that rooted phones can offer more control but also risk data and recovery if not managed carefully.

I'm not sure if I understood the question but I'll try to answer. If you have a custom rom which was pre rooted (i.e. by only flashing the rom your phone got rooted), then flashing a newer version of THE SAME ROM shouldn't make you lose root privileges. If you are on stock rom and you wanna install a custom rom, then you should check if the rom is pre rooted (although it's not recommended to switch roms without factory resetting). If you rooted and/or installed a custom recovery with the stock rom and you receive an update notification then trying to update should give you an error. Bare in mind that as long as you have a custom recovery, if you lose root privileges, it should be really easy to gain them back. Personal recommendation: Check out Paranoid Android.

I updated the stock Oxygen OS version for my OnePlus 3 and tried to apply the recovery update. I'm unsure if it should automatically accept the change, so I wanted to confirm before proceeding. My goal is to avoid losing my root access, so I made sure to ask before making any changes. Your explanation might not be fully accurate—I'm still trying to understand what's happening. Could you clarify or share more details?

Attempting an update may result in one of two scenarios: 1. The update process is blocked. 2. The update proceeds but your root access is lost. I suggest visiting the xda developers website for detailed guidance. You should be able to locate a downloadable zip containing the updated files.

I think I need to make some adjustments. It’s really hard for me to stay updated—every time a new version launches, I have to flash the updates recovery on my phone. I’m just a bit too lazy. I already heard about XDA looking for an xposed module to boost volume steps, but all the ones they tried didn’t work. I went to the bug report, but it’s been known for a while. I might try a different Android version or stick with this and switch to another launcher if possible. Whatever I decide, thank you for your help.
