Hey there! I’m considering the Ryzen 5 5500 and the Gigabyte A520M DS3H. After some digging, I learned that the Ryzen 5 5500 needs a BIOS update to work properly with this motherboard. The Gigabyte A520M DS3H includes a Q-Flash Plus feature that lets you update the BIOS without needing the CPU or RAM. If the update fails, it doesn’t mean the old BIOS is permanently damaged—you can still use Q-Flash Plus to try again. Just make sure you have the latest BIOS version ready for installation.

It's locked down. That's why you must pay attention to the directions and have a power source ready or perform it when you're sure power will be consistent. Plus, it's very likely you won't even need that if they included a newer BIOS; you'll require the F14 version for your system to start up.

The BIOS could become damaged if Q-Flash Plus is stopped during a power failure or other problem. Yet I think Q-Flash Plus (also called BIOS Flashback) is kept in a secure section of the Nuvoton BIOS chip and isn’t changed or overwritten. This means it can be used repeatedly to restore a broken board. Q-Flash Plus is often sensitive to USB flash drives; it usually performs best with USB 2.0 drives that are small (16GB or less) and formatted with FAT32 in MBR - GPT won’t work.
