Hello! I’m checking if it’s safe to upgrade to the latest Windiws release. The November update has some issues, so I’d be wise to wait a couple of weeks before proceeding.

My dad's computer uses Windows 7 and it's been affected by viruses. Would switching to Windows 10 November version prevent crashes? Also, ESET security updates are no longer available for Windows 7.

Be honest, I wouldn't suggest a simple update. A fresh installation is better.

He can't perform a clean installation since it could result in losing access to the Omni Accounts program. Although he purchased a license, he's worried about losing his privileges.

I understand, but an update could affect system performance, especially with a hard drive. I suggest a clean installation. It’s fine to try initially, but reaching out to the Omni software support team might help you get your license for a fresh start.

In fact, the bigger concern is transferring problems from Win7 to Win10. If the system had a virus, you’d need to reinstall regardless. Keep in mind that antivirus only clears the infection; it doesn’t fix file corruption or changes made by the malware, which could disrupt the upgrade or leave you vulnerable to current threats. I suggest being cautious with 'may' and 'if any,' since there are thousands of virus types with different behaviors—some just run ad scripts, others may be more serious, and some combine multiple actions. Additionally, you can’t be sure that switching to Win10 will maintain access to your OMNI account. It’s best to address the issue first before proceeding with a clean install.

You might be able to upgrade to Windows 10, but be prepared for a potentially challenging process. Certain applications could stop functioning, particularly network-related ones like firewalls. The rest should work fine unless there are issues. Regarding viruses, the outcome depends on your familiarity with the threat and whether the removal was fully successful without unintended effects. You can attempt to restore your system using Macrium Reflect Rescue USB, which may allow you to undo changes quickly if the update fails.
