Hello everyone, I recently assembled a new PC with a Ryzen 5 5600X RTX 306TI, 16GB RAM at 3600MHz, MSI B550 MPG, and GAMING PLUS motherboard. While setting it up and downloading drivers, I noticed my internet speed was extremely slow—only 5-8MB per download—even though my brother got over 100MB using the same Ethernet cable in his room. After searching online, I decided to update everything that needed updating. I used the MSI Center app to perform an advanced scan and found a BIOS update (likely from version 1A.0 to 1B.0). The update started downloading, but my screen went blank during the process. It took about 12 hours for it to finish, and since then I haven’t used the keyboard or mouse. The PC has been running nonstop all night. By the 11th hour, I swapped the display cable with an HDMI hoping it would show something, but it didn’t. Now I’m worried I might have damaged the motherboard and don’t know what to do next. Is there any way to cancel this or restart the system? Also, should I reset the BIOS by turning off the PC and removing the CMOS battery? Please help me!
I quit waiting and unplugged the PC from the wall. I knew the BIOS would still download it and ruin my motherboard. THANK YOU FOR THE RESULT! I took out the CMOS battery, unplugged everything from the back, and waited a minute. Then I connected a USB drive and downloaded a BIOS update. After that, I plugged in the power cord to the PSU but left RAM, CPU, cooler, GPU, and my M.2 drive in place. I inserted the USB into the back where it says “BIOS UPDATE” and pressed the update button. It flashed red for about five minutes before the PC restarted and booted into Windows on its own. This didn’t fix my slow Ethernet port problem at all. I’m just glad I got back into Windows without damaging anything! I’ll check again later to see if the Ethernet issue is resolved after a fresh install.
I attempted to install a newer version of BIOs, updated the drivers, and even reinstalled Windows 10. Still, my internet remains slow. It doesn’t seem like a software problem; it must be hardware-related. Apart from the Ethernet port, I didn’t face any other issues. This situation is a real setback since I can’t access the connection properly. I’ve asked for a refund and returned both the motherboard and CPU, which came with the package. It’s quite strange how this turned out.
