Hi, I’m trying to decide whether to install a BIOS update for my computers. Usually I skip it, but I’ve had issues before—like the DRAM light and CMOS reset. My current setup has an MSI B550 Carbon Gaming Wifi with a Ryzen 3600 and an Asus TUF Gaming Plus Wifi II from March 2023. I’m not sure what BIOS came with the new one yet. I’ve heard TPU stutter problems with Windows 11 if the latest BIOS isn’t installed, but others say you can just switch to the latest version in BIOS and turn it off afterward. MSI also offers a specific update for the Asus board. My goal is a stable system without any lag while gaming. Should I go ahead and update both boards, or stick with what I have?

I’d upgrade to the most recent stable BIOS for the board to guarantee optimal performance and compatibility with the CPU, RAM, and other components.

Feeling confident about proceeding was the main point. It’s good to check if there are tasks to complete in BIOS before updating—like setting up optimized defaults, turning off XMP, and other necessary steps. Updating via a USB stick is definitely an option instead of using the BIOS flashback method.

Avoid disabling anything or altering settings; updates are usually applied through the BIOS and will restore defaults automatically. If possible, prioritize the USB update over flashback. The key goal of a BIOS update is to prevent power loss, which could otherwise require a BIOS flashback for recovery or if your CPU isn't supported.
