Unusual test outcomes from memtest86
Hello, the device is a Huawei D15 with soldered RAM (Ryzen 5 3500U, 8GB). I tested it using MemTest86 because blue screens appear occasionally. After a fresh Windows 11 install, the issue still occurs sporadically. BSOD errors seem random but mostly point to memory or Windows file corruption—possibly processor-related now. Stress tests like Superstition didn’t trigger problems beyond memory checks (MemTest86 with many errors, overheating caused shutdown). The Windows Memory Diagnostic flagged hardware faults. After cleaning and re-soldering the vents, a full test ran once on a single-core CPU and passed without errors. I also ran it again with Windows Memory Diagnostic and got no issues. Now I’m confused—could it be overheating? Are these errors normal or a glitch? 20230706_221841.jpg Edited July 7, 2023 by Yolofolks
It's definitely a possibility. The CPU's memory controller tends to be affected by temperature, just like the memory itself, which means overheating can easily cause issues.
Consider taking it to a repair shop or see if someone knows how to open it up.
I also considered this, but after reworking and polishing it it still showed 42 errors (though fewer) and failed the memory tests on both Memtest86 and Windows Memory Diagnostic. It passed cleanly this morning, so I’m not sure what to decide—whether it’s stable now or if it might become unstable again.
I would assume it has stabilized after the initial fix, but I’ll recheck soon—perhaps every couple of days for a short period (once or twice a week for 2–3 weeks). It’s possible the memory didn’t retrain during the first repasting, then got retrained and resumed working at lower temperatures. Alternatively, the mounting pressure on the heatsink might have changed: it was initially too low causing issues, but after reworking it became just right and everything functions normally. That seems unusual but not impossible.
It could be the solution if I face more issues—I might reconfigure it or switch the processor and RAM. (I have an extra board available.) Thanks
