Hey everyone, I just completed a fresh build using my old R7 1700. I added a beQuiet dark Rock 4 and boosted it to 3.5GHz at stock voltages. The idle temps are around 20°C, which is surprisingly low given my room temperature of 18.5°C. Could this be accurate or might there be an issue with the CPU or mainboard? Thanks for your advice!

Early Ryzen processors performed quite well. Idle temperatures around 20°C in an ambient of 18°C are typical. As long as your component temperatures stay within limits, you're safe. That said, I’d aim for a bit higher than 3.5 GHz on the R7-1700 if possible.

Early Ryzen processors performed quite well. Idle temperatures around 20°C in an ambient of 18°C are typical. As long as your component temperatures stay within limits, you're safe. That said, I’d aim for a bit higher than 3.5 GHz on the R7-1700 if possible.

The 2°C difference seemed a bit low. The chip works fine at 4GHz around 1.3V, but my board has a poor VRM so I didn’t want to overheat it. It’s also the setting I left in BIOS before installing Windows. I plan to adjust it later; I just didn’t feel the need to push it right now, especially if there’s an issue with the temperature sensor.

The first-gen Ryzen impressed a lot because it just shows the CPU package specs without core temperatures. I owned one with a 280AIO delivering 4.05GHz at 1.36V, but it only hit around 65°C in an AIDA64, which was pretty impressive for that power level.

I once ran a 4.2GHz CB20on board on an older setup, but the motherboard I used now isn’t capable of handling it
