Unusual system restart after power loss.
Unusual system restart after power loss.
Hello everyone! Your support has been really valuable so far. I have another question that’s still puzzling me. My computer is working just fine now, but whenever I try to restart it, none of the parts—lights or fans—seem to turn off. Instead, they briefly flash to a solid color, and Windows 10 just restarts. During reboot, all debug lights also activate in the order: CPU, DRAM, VGA, then BOOT. I’m pretty sure these lights never used to light up before the recent power failure. This happened after a blackout, so I attempted to clear the CMOS and even looked into turning on ErP, but neither fixed the issue. In Windows 10’s control panel, fast boot is also disabled during restarts. It only works when I try to restart normally—shutting down is fine, and the PC seems to operate normally otherwise.
EDIT: I think I might have been mistaken earlier. After turning my PC back on after a regular shutdown, the debug lights still followed the same sequence: CPU → DRAM → VGA → BOOT. Before the blackout, I was pretty sure this never happened—just one light would briefly illuminate before it started working properly. Do anyone think this is unusual? Could it be an early sign of trouble, or did the power outage damage something? I’m on Windows 10 and have my parts list and a video showing the lights after restart. I’m not sure if that helps. My motherboard is a Gigabyte B650 EAGLE AX with BIOS version F33. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks a lot!
Hello, according to what I understand, everything you mentioned appears to be typical operation – nothing seems faulty. 1. Debug LEDs (CPU > DRAM > VGA > BOOT) – This is the standard startup sequence on the motherboard, which is normal as long as it doesn’t become stuck on any stage. If it does, consult your motherboard’s manual for guidance. You might have overlooked this before, or during a CMOS reset you may have accidentally turned them back on. Some BIOS versions let you disable them if needed. The settings could be labeled like Power LED Support, EZ LEDs, or Debug port LEDs in your BIOS. This is just an assumption, but it’s possible the board self-checked after a power interruption and displayed these lights as a precaution. You can also update your BIOS for better performance: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B65...support-dl There are plenty of guides online if you’re unsure, but it’s not necessary if your system is functioning perfectly and has never had problems. Just ensure the BIOS matches your motherboard model. 2. Restart vs Shutdown – When restarting, it’s normal for some lights or components to remain powered briefly, even after unplugging. A full shutdown might only trigger BIOS settings since you reset CMOS. For instance, my setup keeps the LEDs lit for about five seconds after power is cut completely. If this happens during shutdown, it’s likely a BIOS configuration issue. You can update your BIOS via official support pages: https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B65...11/support. Numerous YouTube tutorials are available if you need help. Don’t stress too much about minor glitches – power surges rarely damage modern devices, and safety measures are usually in place. If you’re concerned about potential risks, a quality surge protector is a wise investment. Have a great day!
It seems like you're confirming something is perfectly fine. You likely didn't realize it was that way before.
