Unusual stops in keyboard and mouse connections

11-25-2019, 03:53 AM #1Hey there! I just set up a new PC and hit some minor problems that are a bit bothersome. Sometimes when the system runs for a short time, my mouse and keyboard drop out at the same moment. The lights stay on, but I can't move the cursor or type anything. Once I unplug them, everything works again. I also noticed my audio interface and webcam aren’t affected, except that I have to reconnect the audio interface after turning on the PC for it to start properly. I’m using a Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite, SteelSeries Apex M750 keyboard, and a SteelSeries Rival 600 Mouse. This isn’t an issue with my old setup, so maybe the motherboard is the culprit. Anyone know what’s going on? Also, I’m using USB 2 ports on the motherboard for the mouse and keyboard—does that make a difference? Let me know!

11-27-2019, 06:21 PM #2I shared the same motherboard as you, and we both faced the same issues. The only solution that helped me so far is connecting all your USB devices to the USB 3.0 and 3.1 ports. Some told me there isn’t enough voltage on the USB 2.0 ports, causing them to disconnect randomly. Hope this assists you

11-28-2019, 05:14 AM #4I handled this myself a few weeks back and everything is working fine now. It remains odd since the device used USB 2.0 connections on my old setup. It seems to be resolved now, though it was quite bothersome. Appreciate your assistance!

11-28-2019, 08:37 AM #5I refreshed all the drivers and, besides that, there are no other programs managing or affecting the peripherals. Likely the issue @TUGiF raised was the cause, and it’s resolved now. Thanks for your assistance!

11-29-2019, 12:31 PM #6Just a quick thought—if you're not using all your USB ports, moving one device to a different port while keeping the others in the 2.0 slot won't cause any issues. It's mainly for checking how it behaves when you're curious about the setup.

11-29-2019, 07:33 PM #7Curious point... It seems the 2.0 version might sometimes cut off at times, while the other version stays connected. Another interesting observation: my mouse and keyboard both shut down simultaneously, but when I reconnected them to the same port, only the mouse worked and the keyboard remained disconnected. I actually had to change the ports for both devices to get them to function properly again.
