I went against my better judgment and downloaded the file. Next time I should upload it to YouTube unlisted. It doesn’t sound like coil whine to me—it feels more like a fan making contact with something, though just slightly. A fan blade hitting the edge of a wire is what I’d call the sound. Right now I’m dealing with some serious coil whine on an EVGA PSU, but yours seems more related to the fan. I agree with you and have always preferred companies that OEM from superflower, but I’ve heard they’ve been less available lately. No certainty if this is true.
It looks like something odd is going on. I might try asking Newegg to lengthen the return window, though I’m unlikely to get a change. I’m hoping the item will be available again before I have to send it back. I reached out to Super Flower yesterday, but haven’t received a response yet.
That sounds positive. The version I had before was really good. I didn’t change it simply because the cables were loose—I reached out to them yesterday, but they haven’t responded yet. I’ll check their warranty details on Newegg since they say only three months and there’s no manufacturer coverage.
Yeah, I’ll definitely upload it to YouTube next time so it’s less risky haha. And I see. It definitely does sound like when a cable got stuck in one of my case fans once. I took out my PSU to make sure none of my case cables got in the PSU fan somehow, but they were not in the fan at all. since my PSU did slide off my desk and hit the side of my desk with the cables plugged in, it’s possible the fan got a bit messed up. Could that be dangerous and cause my PSU to blow up or die and take out the rest of my parts? it’s definitely weird that Super Flower apparently has no manufacturer warranty. I have to get it replaced by March 20th, so I hope it’s back in stock by then. I contacted Super Flower directly yesterday to ask about their warranty, so I’ll see what they say.
Remove it and examine the area through the fan. Check for any cables getting too close, then gently move them with a thin screwdriver. Test if this affects performance. Alternatively, simply open the unit and ensure no cables are rubbing against the fan.
