I own a rebranded laptop featuring an i5 4210M and a 4GB GTX 960M. The motherboard has been removed, and the CPU seems to be inactive as well because the new slot doesn’t respond when connected. I left the device powered off for a day, kept it disconnected from power, and then restarted it. When I returned, fans started up but the screen remained black and the system shut down quickly. Even after adjusting the CPU voltage the previous day using Intel XTU to cool it under load, the issue persisted. I eventually had to replace the unit and stopped trying fixes. It’s puzzling—software can harm hardware if settings are off, but could a small voltage change cause such a complete failure? I’m not sure about the exact risk here.
