Hey everyone, I’m dealing with a monitor problem and trying to figure out if it’s related to my new monitor or just a Windows quirk when using both 4K and 2K displays. My specs include an i9-13900k with 64GB DDR5 RAM, Corsair Dominator Platinum RAM, EVGA Z790, a dark motherboard, and a Gigabyte RTX 4090 OC edition with 4TB M.2 slots in various sizes. Both monitors are connected via DisplayPort cables using V1.4.

The issue I’m facing is that when I play single-player games, turning off the 2K monitor causes the 4K screen to flicker as if it’s trying to regain signal. The 4K monitor seems to recover normally, but the 2K flickers intermittently during gameplay. When I restart or close the game, the 4K screen stabilizes. It doesn’t always happen, but I can still play games smoothly on 4K with the 2K off and connected.

I’ve updated both monitors to the latest firmware and ensured the graphics card is fully patched. I’m hoping someone else has encountered a similar situation and could offer guidance before I return this monitor, fearing it might fail sooner. Thanks for your time and help!

I resolved the problem and since it applies broadly rather than just to my setup, I thought it worth sharing. The new ROG 4K monitor includes an overclock option that boosts performance by roughly 15 Hz. Usually these features seem unnecessary, but I wanted to try it out. There were no issues with the monitor during gaming sessions. However, when launching Assassins Creed Valhalla, it assumed the native resolution was 1920x1080, which seemed incorrect. After some troubleshooting, I turned off the overclocking and everything now displays correctly at the intended resolution. My hypothesis is that the monitor might be misleading the graphics card into thinking it’s running at 1920x1080 to achieve higher clock speeds, though it still feels odd. I hope this assists others in the future.
