Unusual restarts on top-tier machines
Hello, I just assembled a high-end machine for a friend. He’s been facing problems since the start—suddenly the PC freezes with a black screen and restarts, temperatures normal. The crashes happen randomly, whether idle or while gaming under heavy load. I’ve replaced all power cables and updated the BIOS. I’m suspecting a bad power supply, but because it’s a new Seasonic model, similar cases are hard to find. Anyone else seen anything like this?
Specs: Intel Core i9 13900KS, Gigabyte Z790 AORUS XTREME, RTX 4090 Aorus Master (12VHPWR), Corsair Dominator titanium 6600 at 48GB, Samsung 990 Pro 4TB, EKWB EK-Nucleus AIO CR360, Noctua NF-F12 PWM, NF-A14 PWM, Fractal Design, Torrent fan controller.
Yeah, honestly hard to gather a lot of info from that. I can't tell you much more, other than that the power supply should be pretty high quality and should be able to sustain those workloads, unless it's faulty as you say. You can try contacting Seasonic for replacement
The side panel is pressing against the GPU connector. From the images and the wide GPU you described, it seems likely. This could be causing a short in the power connector, which might have triggered the fires from last year and led to unexpected reboots. Nvidia mentioned the customer didn't connect it properly, so everyone assumed it was an issue. You might want to remove the side panel and ensure the connector is fully seated. Consider using the official Nvidia connector and testing with the 4 eps connectors on the PSU.
Run hwinfo64 in logging mode to capture crash details. Check the logs for voltage or temperature issues that hwinfo might detect. Before proceeding, verify if a dump file exists at C:\Windows\Minidp and share it for analysis.

No restrictions on throttling or temperature problems, just stable power rails. The main concern seems to be a small voltage sag when load increases—possibly due to vdroop around 0.05v. It might not be the root cause, but it’s straightforward to address. Check the BIOS and look for a load line calibration in the CPU voltage settings; adjust it to the third or second highest value. This should stop the drop. Note: If the issue occurs at idle as well, vdroop isn’t the problem—this could be hardware-related, possibly causing the PSU to restart.
