Hello, I’ve got a new SSD that’s causing some problems. My thought is it might not be being properly detected by Windows or using faulty drivers. Since it’s not the main drive, I just bought it for extra storage space for games. The Device Manager lists it as a generic 1TB drive—different from the other devices that show their real names. Steam can’t load anything onto it, and CrystalDiskMark couldn’t run tests because it got stuck in preparation mode. For comparison, my other SSD worked fine; I ran tests on it quickly (4-5 minutes) and got a smooth download of Cyberpunk 2077 (over 100 GB). When I tried to download games afterward, nothing happened. I installed the driver from Device Manager, reinstalled it, even used the Samsung Magician app, but it still didn’t show up. The chkdsk command took an extremely long time—over 200 hours—to complete. It seems the drive might be damaged or not properly initialized. Let me know if you need more info. Thanks!

Open Disk Management in Windows, click the new SSD and choose Initialize Disk. Once complete, it should be ready for use. Retrieve the manual for your motherboard to check if it affects M.2 or SATA ports. The port behavior may vary based on your setup. Try initializing the disk using an administrator account; running as admin might not work properly. Because it’s a fresh format, format the drive first before initialization. After formatting and initialization, the drive should appear online. Select GPT partition style. If you received this SSD, it may already have a letter assigned—format it again if needed to get a different letter.

I've already completed that task, as mentioned. I can't reset it again since the option isn't available now. I logged in as admin initially and chose the GPT partition style. The SSD wasn't included; it was purchased new. An interesting observation from today's Event Log: Spoiler, I'm not sure what it means yet, but it seems the "last device instance ID" and "kingston data traveler" (a USB flash drive) might be related. If I can't find a fix, I might have to return it and request a replacement, as there appears to be some warranty coverage. Still, I'd like to explore other solutions first before giving up.

I also consulted ChatGPT to explore possible reasons behind the problem. Essentially, I changed the SATA cables, set Windows to use a new device profile, but nothing improved. The "not migrated" entry in the log appears to be more of an indicator than a root cause. It seems there might be a faulty or fake device involved. The only remaining option seems to be initiating a return or replacement process. Appreciate the advice!
