Unusual problems arise when starting a laptop via an external Thunderbolt 3 connection.
I recently set up Ubuntu on a Thunderbolt external disk, aiming for a dual-boot setup. I’m encountering some unusual boot problems with the Linux partition. The only workaround I’ve found is using Windows to boot from the external drive and selecting it as the target. Other methods yield inconsistent results. When I restart inside Windows, GRUB appears but freezes, preventing me from choosing between Ubuntu or Windows, even though it claims to auto-start in ten seconds. Shutting down via Windows’ F12 menu gives no chance to boot into Linux. I’m unsure if my BIOS lacks support for Thunderbolt booting and feel stuck since there haven’t been recent BIOS updates. Could these issues stem from a BIOS limitation, or is there another way to launch Ubuntu directly without going through Windows?
