Unusual PC problem
In the past week my PC has been behaving strangely. At first I thought it was just a game I was playing, but it seems to occur whenever I play a very demanding one. I turned it on for general use and it worked perfectly, yet recently while playing Cities 2 I noticed lag with the mouse, sometimes the pointer vanishes. I can still use a joystick without issues, though the keyboard also has occasional problems. Usually I can play for about 10 to 20 minutes before this starts happening. The game runs fine during play, but the lag persists afterward. When I exit the game, the lag continues; sometimes the USB devices stop working and then come back on. The hardware is mostly new, less than a year old. I’ve run the PC with only keyboard and mouse, tried various mice and keyboards, reinstalled Windows, and changed ports. I’m a bit confused because I don’t know how to fix this!
When experiencing delays on your computer, what information does Task Manager's Resource Monitor display? If idle resource consumption is excessive, consider terminating applications that appear during startup. Should this not resolve the issue, attempting a system restore to an earlier state before the lag began may be beneficial.
If you notice unusually high system resource consumption, it could indicate a memory leak, a condition introduced with Windows 8. The recommended solutions include performing a system restore or a clean OS installation, ensuring your bootable USB is recreated to eliminate potential corruption.
As mentioned, I performed a full reinstall and everything is functioning properly. The CPU is operating around 35-40%, and cities 2 are running smoothly at the start with minimal load. The game continues to work normally despite the lag, indicating it’s not related to the PC itself. I have nine fans and two Corsair Commander Pro units, which I suspect might be contributing to the issue. I plan to investigate further.
If anyone comes across this, it seems it was a defective RBG HUB; after removing it, it functioned properly again.
