Unusual network performance and device freezing problems. Router becomes unresponsive.
Recently my router (nighthawk xr500) has been acting up, freezing several times this month. I’ve had to restart it at least three times. What should I do? Also, the ping from my PC to the same local server is now 14-15ms over Ethernet, whereas it used to be 1-3ms. When I first connected to the internet, it was much faster at 7ms or less. I also tried WiFi on my PC and got around 15ms. My iPhone is currently getting about 7ms. Is this a PC problem or something related to the router?
Access your device via the computer and connect to Wi-Fi. Open the control panel, choose adaptive settings, double-click on Wi-Fi properties. Navigate to version 4 properties, set DNS server manually to 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1. For Windows 7, use the manual method described. For Windows 10, go to the Start Menu, select Settings, then Network & Internet, click Change adapter options, right-click your connection, choose Properties, pick Internet Protocol Version 4, enter the DNS addresses, restart the PC.
