I've crafted PCs for years, and this remains the most perplexing challenge I've faced: initially, my primary mouse was a Bluetooth Logitech MX Anywhere. Despite switching to a wired model, the problem continues. When shifting the cursor, it frequently stalls for half a second before resetting to a new position. No other part of the screen slows down. The issue intensifies in memory-intensive programs such as games. Recording a macro that automatically moves the cursor doesn’t trigger any lag. Using an Xbox controller also avoids this stutter. I've tested various mice—wired or wireless—and the problem persists regardless. Removing Bluetooth from the device manager and restarting helped, but the stutter still lingers. On another PC, the issue disappears entirely. For my first time in PC assembly, I’m unsure what steps to take next. My current specs are: MOBO: ASUS PRIME B550-PLUS GPU: AMD RADEON RX 5700 XT CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 4500 6-core SSD: Samsung SSD 970 PRO 1TB RAM: 16GB x 2 I’ve tried: uninstalled mouse drivers in Device Manager, restarted the system, disabled Bluetooth, switched to a wired mouse, updated MOBO firmware, updated GPU drivers. Something unusual about this build: my SSD comes from a completely different machine, which might mean conflicting drivers are at play.
You might have used the SSD without updating Windows, which is possible. I suggest wiping the drive and installing a new operating system. You can also try booting from an Ubuntu live USB to check for hardware problems like mouse issues or software glitches. Good luck!
