I just had to upgrade my PC recently. The manufacturer I bought it from gave me a motherboard that didn’t support overclocking. I replaced it with a new one, removed all the internal components and assembled my own system. After some troubleshooting and waiting a while, everything started working smoothly. But there’s one thing to note. My CPU and motherboard were both running hotter than before. In fact, the motherboard always showed the same temperature as my CPU. I’m curious if others faced similar problems and what solutions they used. I’m using MSI Meg X570S with a Ryzen 9 5950x, Radeon 6900X graphics, and four 16GB Corsair Vengeance RAM sticks in M.2 slots. I don’t recall my storage setup, but everything is still running fine. Could something have gone wrong during the rebuild? Maybe insufficient thermal paste, a loose fan, or other factors causing the temps to sync up?
During the run of Dead Space 2023 I was in temperatures ranging from 74 to 81°C. While working on the project I can also manage those levels. Currently I monitor my GPU temps using an app called Advance System Care. This version was added before the latest GPU was installed. Note that the GPU also shows its temperature on the screen after power-on.
It looks like everything is functioning normally. The CPU isn't throttling, so power should be increasing appropriately. Under full load with a 280mm EVGA AIO, my 5900X typically runs well. I'm not sure about the exact motherboard temperature, but I know the sensors are usually adjustable and spread across the board. Most boards include an ambient case sensor and a VRM temperature sensor among others. If these are near the VRMs or the socket, they should match CPU temps as you draw more power. As long as nothing exceeds 90°C, it's fine. Make sure your case fans provide adequate airflow to keep everything cool. Proper ventilation helps the VRM heatsinks and RAM stay at optimal temperatures.
It was my biggest concern from the start. I researched extensively before writing this. Most mobos you don’t want are over 80°C, which made me nervous when I saw 81°C. The passive heat sinks on this board and USB ports were the reason I chose it. I’m confident about the CPU because this model handles up to 90°C or 85°C before throttling. I wasn’t too worried about the pricey build I just bought. I already have some extra thermal paste ready in case. I might also switch the AIO fans so they push air through the radiator, hoping to lower the room temperature inside.
