I started RDR2 this afternoon without any problems; everything worked smoothly. I powered off my PC for a few hours and restarted before returning to Saint Denis. Then I received a warning from the Fan Control software. It indicated that several sensors couldn’t be detected, showing only the GPU fans and preventing profile loading. Additionally, Windows Defender began displaying warnings I’d never seen before. Initially, everything appeared normal when I opened Defender, but whenever I tried to sync my sensors through FanControl, it would trigger a warning from the antivirus stating “Hack tool Win32/Winring0.” The warning would appear briefly while FanControl attempted to re-sync and then disappear. I found this issue on Reddit, suggesting it might be related to a recent Windows update. Someone recommended pausing the update and consulting others for advice before proceeding. I’ve used FanControl for years since my PC was built, and I’ve never encountered such problems. The updates were always applied through the software itself, not via external downloads, so I’m curious how this could be harmful. I’d appreciate your guidance rather than just relying on Reddit comments.

With more online reading, it’s clear that the mental impact has been recognized for some time. Developers were already aware and developers would have addressed it over a year ago. It looks like the code needs significant changes to resolve an issue that hasn’t been fixed. Regarding your concern, if you ignore the warning, is your system still safer now than before? Or does the defender’s alert simply confirm there’s still a risk, making it acceptable to proceed?

I experienced the same problem after restarting my PC roughly 30 minutes ago. All my sensors disappeared, and in your case, the fan controller isn’t appearing in "Current threats," making it hard for Windows to handle that threat.

When Windows Defender is running and you enable fan control to refresh concurrently, the threat appears for a short moment.

I’m using a temporary workaround until we have a definitive solution. The GPU is functioning properly, so I set up its own profile in FanControl to avoid triggering sensor errors. I’ve also enabled all smart controller settings on my CPU and case fans via the BIOS, which appears to be resolving the issue. For the long term, I can adjust the fan curves in MAG BIOS if needed, allowing me to lower the noise slightly. However, I still don’t have full access or control over both GPU and CPU fans.
