The devices used included: His initial setup – an I7 10700K with 2 GB RAM, a B460M Aorus Elite Kingston 2666 SSD, Samsung PM983 1.92T NVMe, and an RTX 3070 Ultra W OC graphics card. The power supply was a 650W SFX model from ASUS. My setup featured an I7 8086K MSI Z390 Gaming board, Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro RAM sticks (8GB each), a Samsung SATA SSD 500GB, and an IronWolf 8T motherboard. Toshiba X300 6TB was also part of the configuration.
He purchased hardware from CanadaComputer in September due to limited video card availability. He managed to secure a reasonably priced card online, assemble the tower, and ship it to Canada. Initially, the issue appeared to be with the graphics card, showing errors like incorrect resolution or green screen after startup (Error Code 43).
After switching the card, the problem vanished temporarily. However, on the fifth day, he encountered a new issue: the motherboard had only two screws securing it. He replaced it with a new one that included built-in Wi-Fi. This caused another compatibility issue. A fresh power supply resolved the first problem, but when the original supply was used again, the same error reappeared.
The core issue seemed to be an incompatibility between the new power supply and the ASUS motherboard model. After restarting, the computer would briefly power on for a couple of seconds, producing a distinctive click sound from the PSU before restarting normally. The green lines appeared intermittently, often coinciding with startup.
Trying alternative ports, cables, or even swapping the CPU (which runs on 10th Gen Intel) and cases didn’t fix it. I also experimented with different motherboards and hardware configurations, but none resolved the recurring problems. A video was shared showing the green lines and restart behavior. Eventually, replacing the PSU with a new one resolved the issue, restoring normal operation.
There seems to be some uncertainty about the components. The CPU model mentioned isn't clearly identified as a 10th or 11th generation processor. I’m not sure if there’s a different CPU involved that wasn’t discussed. Regarding the power supply, the first one appears insufficient for the 3070 chipset, and the second PSU seems to have overcurrent protection, suggesting either a fault or excessive power draw. It might be worth checking if the second PSU actually has enough capacity. The claim about it being “too expensive to be broken” doesn’t quite fit the situation. I’m not certain about any additional purchases made.
I'm sorry, there was no CPU purchase and the only one I have is an 10700K. I’ll edit the post later. We haven’t tested my PSU to power his rig since the new one works well with mine. For the 5xx board, the socket matches LGA1200 for the board and the 10700K. I don’t see any issues here. When the second one connects, we unplug and plug the older (underpowered) one—then it runs fine.
