Hi, around 8-10 months ago I encountered a problem with Windows. It wasn't severe but became bothersome over time. My desktop serves as my primary workspace, holding most of my shortcuts and numerous files and folders. Sometimes when I download something directly to the desktop—its default download spot—I notice it shifts to the second slot for icons, relocating everything else. This happens occasionally, about 10-20% of the time, without a clear pattern. In the long run, this is wasting my time fixing icons. Technical details: I'm using Windows 11, though I recently upgraded from Windows 10. The installation wasn't broken; it was a fresh setup on a brand-new drive, so no old issues remain. If anyone knows why this is happening, I'd appreciate hearing about it. Feel free to ask any questions. ^^ P.S. As a French speaker, I might have made some mistakes—sorry if that's the case.

You might want to use a tool to preserve and recreate the layout. Someone else could offer a better idea. Check if the icon area is completely filled or has an open space.

Using a program would be as anoying as just replacing them when it appen (since there may be new problems introduced by the program), the row is full, in fact i have multiple full rows, that's why it's annoying beacause when something is inserted in the second slot, everything is mooved by one slot. This is a bug that I never saw someone have, so I'm not expecting much but who knows, maybe someone will know ^^

No, it doesn't consistently place it in the same location.

A simple idea—keep that area blank for downloads.
