Games suddenly lose performance, dropping from around 60 to 30 or lower, then stopping temporarily until you intervene. This usually happens when switching windows—especially in Factorio, Cities Skylines, and Planet Coaster while using borderless windowed mode. The issue appears instantly after opening another window, even though the games claim fullscreen. I've tried reinstalling Windows, disabling Radeon Chill, and checking for CPU throttling, but nothing resolves it. It doesn't occur on Linux or with adaptive Vsync. The problem seems consistent across multiple versions and drivers.

I believe there might be an issue, but I’m not sure how to resolve it. The Borderless render behaves similarly to other programs like Chrome on PC, which could cause the game to feel like you’re switching tabs. You might try launching the game in DX9 using Steam’s properties and launch options (though I don’t know the exact command).

I will have to look and see if there's a way to do that

It seems something is attempting to take control of the active window, shifting the game into a passive state and putting it into resource-saving mode. Are there any software issues or problems you're encountering, like Logitech drivers acting strangely, Adobe updates, or other bugs?

If it is it's not doing a good job. I'm not seeing anything popup and I don't think there's anything like that running. I should also say that in Factorio, particularly before the reinstall, sure it would happen randomly, but it would also happen at particular moments when opening a big UI menu for example, consistently, every time, opening or closing it would almost certainly trigger the fps drop.

I examined the surroundings and discovered a page with a different message, but you're correct—it matches the actual instruction. Testing this proves challenging since you need to keep playing until the issue appears. If it shows up, you realize it's not resolved yet; if not, you can't be sure. Planet Coaster has consistently been my most dependable test tool (it clearly shows whether lag comes from heavy usage or a strange problem, and it occurs within a reasonable timeframe—enough to test regularly without being too frequent or too rare). In that game, using your provided flag resolved the issue. I'll continue testing in other programs to confirm if the same fix works there, though this isn't a permanent solution—it's just a temporary workaround. I'd still like to understand the root cause and fix it properly if possible.

Are there any games with fullscreen available but without a proper selection menu? Or do they only run in a windowed, borderless layout? Do you have TeamViewer installed? Even if it isn't active, check the Task Manager to see if any of its processes are running. If found, closing those should let you enable fullscreen for those titles. (GTA V had this problem for me before.) This might resolve the performance problems I experienced. Regarding your specific concern, I don’t have ideas beyond confirming you have the most recent drivers for your device or trying to revert to an older version. The fullscreen issue on GTA V seemed to be linked to TeamViewer, but not to the games themselves.

I don’t have TeamViewer installed and I’ve never used it before, but that’s fine. Regarding the games, it seems common nowadays to use borderless windowed fullscreen, even though they’re different from each other. I appreciate when games provide both options because each has its benefits, though sometimes it isn’t the case.

I don’t have that kind of background, to be truthful—usually I just play a few similar matches. But seeing it labeled “borderless windowed” as “fullscreen” could still be useful for others.
