Unusual drops in frame rate in FFXIV
I purchased a Lenovo Legion 5P 15ARH05H a few years back. I enjoy playing Final Fantasy 14 and until recently everything was working well, usually maintaining around 60 frames per second without any issues. Occasionally during PVP sessions with around 40 to 50 characters in view, the performance would dip slightly, and during some 24-player raids with intense activity, it would still stay at about 50 FPS. Recently, I've observed that the frame rate has become much more inconsistent, fluctuating wildly between 7 and 60 FPS, without a steady number. Even when my character stands alone with no one nearby or moving, it randomly jumps between 40 and 60 FPS. Last weekend I played a similar game with friends; it never exceeded 20 FPS and often dropped below 10 FPS. A restart helped temporarily but only restored the randomness. Initially, I thought overheating was the cause, so I replaced the thermal paste—no improvement. I reinstalled the graphics drivers and checked that everything was up to date. A friend recommended checking the Page File, but it was deemed fine. Another suggestion was a virus scan, though no problems were found. Today I performed a clean install of the Nvidia drivers, but it didn’t resolve the issue. My other favorite game is League of Legends, which runs smoothly at around 120 FPS, though I’m not sure that really matters. I’ve been monitoring the task manager, but nothing stands out as causing excessive resource usage. I captured a screenshot during a raid earlier, which includes the dxdiag file. I’m not very comfortable with hardware details, but it shows only 2.1 GB of RAM in use while struggling with FPS. The screen says utilization reached 89%, though it can go up to 98%. That level is normal for my GPU, so I’m not sure. My CPU and RAM usage remain within typical ranges—only a slight increase of about 5-10% on the CPU. I’m running Windows 11 64-bit, and the BIOS info lists Lenovo FSCN11WW from July 23, 2020 (the latest version). I’ve considered a full Windows reinstall, but I’m uncertain if that would help, since I managed to run the game smoothly for a while before these problems appeared. Any advice would be appreciated, except for the reinstall—other than that, I’m stuck and considering a new machine. DxDiag.txt
