I experience some unusual actions with my RTX 3090. While running simulations, the system would occasionally crash. The sequence usually starts with the screen freezing while the mouse remains active, followed by audio stopping, then the mouse freezing after a short delay before a black screen appears. Once all fans increase to full speed—CPU, GPU, and case—I often have to shut it down. In the Event Viewer, only an unexpected shutdown error appears. Initially, I thought the GPU was drawing too much power because it's a Strix OC edition and my PSU is around 700/800W. I adjusted the curve settings to prevent overclocking, which reduced crashes somewhat but not completely. Now, the crashing still occurs occasionally. I suspect overheating might be the cause, though the afterburner shows only about 60°C. On auto mode, the GPU fan runs at roughly 60% speed, and the GPU heats up noticeably. I manually increased the fan speed to 90% (avoiding excessive noise) and removed the glass side panel. The GPU temperature still stays around 60°C, but the system no longer crashes. Anyone has any ideas about what might be wrong? Should I consider replacing the PSU or the GPU?
identified the problem—it's overheating. Despite afterburner showing 61, the hotspot and VRM temperatures reached 105. After extended use, it appears the GPU shut down to safeguard itself. I lowered the voltage and capped the core voltage, and it now functions properly.
