Hi, I've noticed this morning a strange sound from my computer. It seem to come from the power supply area but it's hard to locate. I'm used to buzzing beeping and flashing stuff in a computer, but I dont remember hearing this one in the past. What's bother me the most is how regular it is. 6sec of silence follower by 10sec of buzzzzz You can hear it here, is stop at 00:06 and start again around 00:12 I've learn the hard way from mechanical hard drive that such noise should not be ignored Obviously, I cant just swap the power supply to test if it's really from it as it's not something I have in spare. I think the buzz noise appear this night after a Windows reboot or shutdown (no idea why it rebooted, maybe an update. I left it on sleep and found it off) but it's pretty quiet so i'm not sure Do any of you already heard something similar? Thanks a lot
Attempt to separate components or disable parts. Power off your HDDs to check if the noise disappears. Check GPU for coil whine during heavy tasks like gaming to see if load impacts it. Temporarily unplug all fans one by one if needed, to pinpoint which ones are causing the sound. Also, note that audio was boosted 800% in the file—amplified8x.mp3.
Thank you very much for the audio file! I’ll attempt to remove some components and check if anything differs. Just in case, I’ll try to complete this without fully turning on the computer because... I don’t have many unnecessary things. I was really hoping that noise would be avoided with these steps ^^
I'm sorry to hear that... it seems like a fan issue rather than coil whine. The file is labeled as 20240401_145654.mp4.
Yes, it's recognized as a fan bearing issue. You can swap the fans and see if it helps, though they often make little noise. In reality, the problem is usually hard to hear most of the time. I know which one in my PC (the Noctua CPU cooler) causes this, but it doesn't happen often, so it usually doesn't bother me much. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It works just fine.
Thanks for your feedback. To be honest, this noise was noticeable enough to catch, especially because of its sporadic pattern (I wouldn’t miss it if it were steady). Here’s a quick update: once I took my PC off the stand to test it on the floor, the sound stopped—so no testing possible. It might be a simple fix, but when I turned it back on the next day it started again... That’s the worst issue! It seems resolved for now, so I’ll go with the “it probably nothing” explanation and move forward. Really appreciate all your support!
