Hey y'all. I'm having a weird freeze issue on my pc since today. It is randomly freezing, but not an OS freeze, the whole system freeze to the point the reset button does nothing. This has happened before with me some years ago, around 2021-2022, not sure the exactly year. Here are some details on the first freeze: I was playing Minecraft on the latest Debian stable version of that time and listening to music on VLC. The system froze and pressing the restart button did nothing. I thought it was weird, but forcing shutdown (by pressing the power button) the pc worked. The computer booted again, and everything was fine, and i kept playing without any issues after. At this time, my computer had the following specs: CPU: Pentium G4560 (@ 3.5Ghz, 2c/4t) GPU: integrated, Intel HD 610 RAM: 1x4Gb, 2400Mhz, DDR4, Crucial with XMP Storage: 2Tb Seagate Barracuda HDD / Some samsung ODD Mobo: Asus H110M-K with bios version 4210 PSU: Cooler Master Elite Power 400w RS-400-PSAP-J3 Now this issue started again, on Windows, and has happened 3 times so far only today. Here are my current computer specs: CPU: Pentium G4560 (@ 3.5Ghz, 2c/4t) GPU: Asus GTX 1050 Ti (plugged on main monitor) / Intel HD 610 (plugged on 2nd monitor) RAM: 1x8Gb 2666Mhz (running at 2400), DDR4, Crucial basics / 1x4Gb, 2400Mhz, DDR4, Crucial with XMP Storage: Crucial BX500 240Gb (boot) / 2Tb Seagate Barracuda HDD /Still with some samsung ODD Mobo: Asus H110M-K with bios version 4401 PSU: Cooler Master MWE 500 Bronze, V2 Additionally, I've moved cities between the first time this occurred and now, not sure if this could be revelant. Any ideas who could be the culprit? I managed to measure the voltages on the GPU (mine has some test points) and they all looked fine.
Add more RAM, upgrade the CPU, and overall refresh your setup except for the motherboard, power supply, and storage. Re-seat all components you’re confident about, and give power connectors a bit more movement to ensure drives are properly connected. I replaced every connection and ran memtest86+. It froze again in BIOS but passed all tests so far. Do you really need to upgrade the CPU, RAM, or motherboard? This machine has worked well for me—programming, 3D work, video/image editing, and some games like Valorant and Minecraft—and the prices are quite steep right now.
Buddy offers 16gb RAM and 4 cores as a baseline for modern tasks, though it's disappointing. The CPU is from 2017 and lags behind newer i5 or i7 models of similar age. You don’t need the latest top-of-the-line hardware; even older generations can perform well, especially when used. Your system struggles with heavy workloads and gets bogged down quickly.
I adjusted the clock speed to 2133mhz and turned off igpu. It functioned properly. After rebooting and resetting everything, it worked again. I've been running stress tests with aida64 and prime95 without any freezes. Thanks for the advice, I'll proceed once more.
