Hey there, today I’m sharing one of the oddest challenges I’ve faced. My setup looks like this: operating system – Windows 10 Pro (version 21H2, build 19044.2075), Experience Features – Windows 120.2212.4180.0, CPU – Ryzen 9 5900x, RAM – Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro (4 x 8GB, DDR4-3600), GPU – Inno3D GeForce GTX 1660 Super Twin X2, Power supply – Corsair RM850 (2019, 850W), SSD – Samsung 980 Pro (500GB, 3.5", CMR). BIOS version is 3603. Asus software won’t let me update it, even after trying the Asus Ai suite 3 from their guides. RAM is installed from Corsair, GPU from Inno3D, PSU from Corsair, and I’m using a Samsung SSD for storage.

The problem started when I added a new SSD and booted into Windows. In Disk Management I created a partition, renamed it, and formatted it. But when I opened File Explorer, it didn’t appear. Task Manager showed the drive but no letter assigned. Disk Management worked fine until it froze – it opened normally but didn’t show any drives. I ran chkdsk in Command Prompt, which reported clean, so I waited a while and tried a restart. After that, the PC would freeze at the BIOS entry (pressing Del or F2), then I restarted again.

I reset the PC several times, but it kept looping back to that stuck window. I tried pressing “Del” repeatedly in BIOS, but nothing changed. I even pressed it before it locked up, but still couldn’t enter BIOS. Eventually I removed the SSD and rebooted. It booted normally this time.

Then I thought maybe moving the PC had affected things – I reinserted RAM and tried booting again. Still stuck on that same window. I reset the PC a few times, but it never escaped. I checked for errors with chkdsk, but nothing came up.

Now I’m wondering if this SSD is the culprit or if something else is wrong – maybe my motherboard’s SATA connection is faulty, or perhaps it’s incompatible with my system. I’ve tried swapping in cheaper drives before, but they worked fine. I’m unsure whether I’m doing anything wrong, or if this SSD is just not suited for my setup.

I’m a bit anxious about installing another SSD now, feeling like I might be damaging it. It’s strange since the first one caused similar issues – Windows stuck in a loading circle, but everything else worked. I’ve also sent the faulty SSD back to the supplier for replacement, but the new one is causing the same problems.

I’m trying to figure out what’s going on without knowing exactly why this drive is behaving so oddly. Any advice or help would be really appreciated!
