Hey there, forum members! I recently upgraded my i7-8700K to an R7-7700X and everything seems fine now, but a few things have raised some red flags. Here’s what happened:

- After installing the new parts, I placed the RAM in slots 0 and 2 nearest the CPU. Initially, the system wouldn’t boot. After about 10-15 minutes, it worked properly. I thought maybe it was memory training, but after a short while it stopped.
- Switching the RAM slots resolved the issue within roughly 2 minutes.
- Ryzen Master keeps showing me it’s on Auto-OC, even though I’ve tried clearing CMOS. It doesn’t seem to fix the problem.
- Some games have been acting up since the upgrade—especially Elden Ring and CS:GO. Elden Ring won’t launch at all, displaying a blank screen with their cursor before freezing. CS:GO sometimes gets corrupted files when joining competitive matches, which leads to Steam getting stuck and not being able to recover the data (I checked the dump file, made a backup, but it didn’t work). I can still play deathmatches without issues.
- My system specs are pretty standard: R7-7700X, 32GB Vengeance 6000MT RAM, RTX 2080Ti GPU, 1000W PSU, and a quiet 11TB storage drive.

I was originally on Windows 10 but switched to 11 after the upgrade to test for improvements. The BIOS is now at version 13.11 as of this month. I’m open to any advice or suggestions—maybe reseating the CPU could help, though I’m not sure why that would matter. Thanks for your help!

Hey there! The forums are here for you. RAM should be placed in slots 2 and 4, separated from the CPU socket (A2 and B2). What model do you have? I’m considering switching brands since Corsair Vengeance didn’t perform well with Ryzen on AM4. Apparently, Ryzen Master can tweak the BIOS settings after a reboot to optimize performance.

RAM placement in slots A2 and B2 has been optimal for a while, though DDR5 is newer than previous standards. I used to think proximity to the CPU was key, but it seems timing matters too. The model you shared runs a 32GB configuration with 2x16GB modules. Yes, it’s still in the DDR5 era, and after updating with Ryzen Master, my PC sometimes freezes during boot. The fans spin loudly, and the GPU LED flashes red briefly before everything restarts normally. That CMOS reset and reset behavior is interesting—maybe a temporary CPU fault?

RAM layout sets the order in which slots need to be installed, not based on proximity. This approach has been consistent for a while. With Ryzen Master, it seems unusual. Verify all power connections are securely placed. Review your XMP settings in CPU-Z under the Memory section and confirm they match the timings of the profile you activated.
