Unmanaged switch and router visibility?
Recently I set up a TP-Link deco M5 mesh network. Each device has two Ethernet ports, but the main one is responsible for internet access and only has one port available. The other two meshes share it. In the future I may need more Ethernet devices on the main port, so I’m wondering if adding an unmanaged switch to the main mesh would allow the mesh to recognize all connected Ethernet devices. Would the mesh be able to see the devices on the unmanaged switch, or just the switch itself? For instance, if I connect a device like an Xbox to the unmanaged switch, could the mesh handle port forwarding or create a DMZ for it? Also, I understand that devices would need to share the 1Gbps available on the unmanaged switch, which isn’t a concern for me.
The router would detect the gadgets behind the switch but not the switch itself. Since an unmanaged switch operates on another networking layer, the router won't recognize the switch as a connected device. It treats all devices under the switch equally, allowing your TP Link Deco satellites, Xbox, and other equipment to appear as distinct items.
