Would you mind confirming whether the test results were provided? If performance is significantly below expectations, I’d recommend having the hardware rechecked. It could point to a problem with the thermal paste application. The HWinfo panel should capture idle average and peak temperatures, and alert for throttling. If this isn’t functioning properly, it might simply be due to incorrect setup. It looks like the Clevo is built according to specifications but the testing process remains unclear. An untrained user turning it on and checking manually doesn’t reflect real-world validation against defined benchmarks.
As stated originally, I'm aware this task is time-consuming. I put a significant amount of money into this laptop and plan to use it for a graduate program in programming, aiming for strong compilation capabilities.
Looking through my emails they did not give me the test results. I wonder if the testing they did involved any benchmarking, I read that and just assumed it was functional testing. I'll go ahead and get cinebench and see what it's running like. I would be sad if it were bad application of thermal paste because I actually paid extra for "Extreme Performance Thermal Pads" whatever that means. Thanks a bunch for all the help you've provided so far though, you've been really helpful.
Cinebench results seem disappointing as well—21k versus the typical 28k. The weakest scores I’ve seen are around 24k. I’ll share a screenshot I took using hwinfo during the test. It looks like most cores aren’t throttling due to heat, but one consistently struggles every time.
It would be fine with an i7 processor, it wouldn't overheat and might even run better in these cases. Regardless, it's going to consistently lag behind and push you toward other gadgets since similar performance exists elsewhere at lower or equal prices. The AMD 7000 series is delivering strong results soon.
It makes sense you’d prefer a cooler and more powerful chip for your needs. Right now I’ve already invested in a machine, so I’m focusing on matching current benchmarks. I understand the trade-offs between desktop and laptop setups—portability versus performance. My current processor is struggling significantly, even with an external cooler. If there’s a better option available, I’d really like to discover it. I’m open to exploring alternatives, though I hope I’m not completely stuck.
The cooling system is severely impacting the performance of your 13900HX. Even with the same CPU in a Lenovo Legion, it can achieve over 35,000 points in Cinebench R23. It seems either the installation was poor or the heatsink isn't sufficient for optimal results. I’d ask XoticPC to clarify why your Cinebench scores don’t match expectations. His reported 77°C max temperature is impressive when compared to the 100°C your processor is reaching.
I agree you're on the right track. One of the main components reaches up to 100C and slows down quickly under heavy use. I sometimes experience strong single-core performance, which suggests there might be an issue with the thermal paste. I'm reaching out to XoticPC as suggested, hoping it helps us find a resolution. They seem focused more on GPU settings at the moment, but I'll continue trying to see if the problem worsens.
