Hi, I’m facing several significant challenges with our ISP after installing the router provided by Telstra. Here’s a brief summary:

- We have about 13 devices connected, with one using Ethernet and the rest via Wi-Fi.
- We’re on an Australian NBN plan with Telstra, which offers speeds over 40 MB/s down but only around 7 MB/s on Wi-Fi.
- Recent issues include frequent latency spikes (up to 4k+), packet loss lasting over five minutes, and random DNS failures.
- Wi-Fi performance has been inconsistent—sometimes it works well when someone enters the house, but often drops quickly.
- Over the past two weeks, speeds have dropped to 2–3 MB/s, and connectivity is now spotty.
- Restarting the router hasn’t resolved the problems.
- We’ve tried upgrading to other models, but reviews raised concerns and the prices were high.

Currently, only a few devices are online, including our PC. We’ve reached out to Telstra Support, who advised updating the router firmware but didn’t suggest further action. We’re leaning toward upgrading to a TP-Link Archer C7, which seems more affordable and has good reviews. However, we’re unsure if it will solve our issues or if it’s a waste of money since the root cause is still unclear.

We’re also a gaming group with mostly PC usage, so our Wi-Fi needs are limited. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!
