Watched the latest $5000 AMD upgrade. Great work on setting up the event. I’m using Amplyfi mesh and a Plume system. I’m considering switching back to Ubiquiti gear but feel unsure about matching systems. Right now I have four pods/mesh points—two with PCs and other devices wired in. They’re on the second floor, making it hard to run coax or Ethernet to those areas. If possible, they used U6 mesh, but I’d like to move to WiFi 7. What options exist in the Ubiquiti lineup for something similar? Thanks!

If you can't or won't stick with the APs, the top option is Wifi 6. To connect it to a PC and boost performance, you'll need the U6 mesh pro.

I checked Unifi Express 7 and wondered if a standard ceiling-mounted AP could function as a mesh network without being permanently wired.

Everyone is capable of working with mesh technology, but they must ensure it’s turned on, properly adopted, and kept current. Otherwise, they won’t connect or sync correctly once you disconnect from the network.

You can either pull the carpet along its edges, run the wires through, and reposition it, or place the wire just beneath the carpet’s edge against the wall, slightly overlapping it—usually with a small groove for better fit. This method works well when you notice significant speed drops like 900Mbps or 23Mbps. Decide how to run the cable based on your setup; you’ll either need to make it look neat or put in extra effort for a smoother appearance. Your decision is yours.

The Express units operate differently from the other APs, even when using AP mode—they consistently run "Unifi OS." It’s not advisable to choose them unless better alternatives are available.

All Unifi APs purchased after the AC Wave 2 release (those featuring HD in their model names) should support wireless adoption. However, the "Unifi Auto-Link" feature must be activated in the controller together with Mesh.
