Hello. Today I installed my UniFi network in my home—just two ACs, a Poe switch, and a gateway. Everything is set up on my Windows VM. Now I’m considering using my spare Raspberry Pi as the controller and wondering if I’ll have to reconfigure the entire UniFi network again.

The controller doesn’t need to operate nonstop. After setup, you won’t have to interact with it again unless you wish to adjust settings. Some functions are essential but seldom used at home. You can save a copy of the controller and revert to it on another device if you plan to relocate it.

It's not accurate to say that a guest portal must always be active; it depends on your setup. Unless you have a USG, it won't need to run continuously.

It seems you overlooked mentioning some aspects that depend on the controller, which aren't commonly needed at home.

It looks like you're reminding me of something important. To get the stats, the system needs to be active. I've got a controller running on my Synology NAS that seems to function properly.
