Microsoft Flight Sim 2024 runs smoothly with your hardware setup. After a short flight session, the tower shuts down unexpectedly. It won’t respond again until you remove the power cord from the UPS and let it rest for a while. The APC 1500 displays steady power usage around 410-450 watts when MSFS is active, dropping to about 230 watts otherwise. Over the past month, the GPU stays cool, but the CPU remains stable. The issue started three days ago and has occurred three times. I’m now more careful to avoid triggering it again. It seems a thermal protection might be involved—since it resumes after a few minutes and never activates until MSFS runs. Could the PSU, the GPU, or the mainboard be the cause? Your observations are helpful. Thanks.

It appears most people agree that PSU's performance over the past 5-7 years is decent, but in reality they often last much longer. Based on this estimate, you might want to start by replacing the PSU and then move forward from there. Particularly if you invest significant time on the machine, it’s likely you’ll reach the end of its support period.

I activated it today and within three minutes of browsing it shut off. I went to Best Buy to get the newest Corsair RM1000x model. That resolved the issue. The computer has been running for more than two hours, and I ran a 20-minute test in MS Flight Sim.

I thought it might be the power supply unit too. Whenever the system stops working without BSOD or freezes, it’s usually overheating or an issue with the PSU. Your mention of needing to unplug it for a while was a clear sign. Good that it got fixed!
