Unexpected changes in system performance during gameplay.
I understand it will be challenging. Should anyone choose to skip or revert to an earlier version?
However, you should be able to observe idle temperatures during startup before running any game or benchmark, or while using Chrome, the wallpaper, or similar applications with minimal GPU load. Temperatures exceeding 30°C and increasing suggest poor or defective cooling performance.
Just revert to the prior version, but honestly it's a risky move. Is he in the newest update? 526.98 seems likely. I had a glitchy driver a while back, but it mostly affected the in-game map in Cyberpunk. 522.25 probably supports an iGPU? Not certain if many titles run smoothly on that setup, though it might be worth testing to check for crashes when removing the 1070ti and using the iGPU... It could help confirm or rule out the problem.
He displays 38-40 degrees with OCCT alongside Steam, Discord, Epic, and Logitech GHUB not contributing anything. He’s currently running version 526.98, updated yesterday morning. He plans to try the integrated graphics setup. Thanks both of you so far. Note: I’m still trying to understand the GPU solution since it performs well when it does work. He can play games like League of Legends, Rocket League, and even emulate RetroArch normally, while multitasking smoothly between a game and another at the same time. The temperature setting varies based on room conditions, airflow, and other factors, so fixed numbers like 30 or 40 degrees aren't very accurate. The gap between the room temperature and the component's temperature (ΔT) is a better measure of actual heat buildup. The GPU will likely reduce its performance before overheating occurs. The games you mentioned are generally light to moderate in demand, making them suitable for older or budget systems. Emulation tends to increase CPU usage more than the GPU.
Due to some challenges, the IGPU test will occur later tonight. He repeatedly faced the problem by just observing another person’s screenshot on Discord.
It seems the issue persists even with those games. I might have missed something. A demo of a more demanding game could help verify if you own any. There appears to be a Hitman 3 demo available.
