Hi,
I'm trying to lower the clock speed of an i7 8750h to decrease the temperature. It works fine at 2.2ghz for office use and some VPS tasks, but I'm unsure about the correct voltage settings. I've heard underclocking can be risky because it might require using less voltage than the motherboard supports. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks and sorry for the unclear English.

Hi
My ASUS gaming laptop has an i7-8750h processor. When I underclocked it, performance dropped and voltages stayed the same unless I adjusted them. I changed the voltage down to -0.150 and it runs much better with lower temperatures. You can check YouTube for similar XTuple undervolting guides.

I recommend swapping the thermal paste for a superior alternative such as Arctic MX-4 or Arctic Silver 5 rather than reducing voltage. Disabling Intel Turbo Boost could also be beneficial.
