Hello, I want to start by mentioning my PC setup: CPU AMD Ryzen 9 3950X, 16-core RAM from Corsair Vengeance LPX (64GB), DDR4 3600MHz, GPU Gigabyte RTX 3080 Ti, M.2 slot with 1TB Samsung 970 EVO PLU, screen is an ASUS TUF X570-PLUS, and it runs Samsung Odyssey G9. The cooling unit is a Corsair H115i RGB PRO XT Hydro series PSU. I understand the power supply might be too much for the situation, but it’s the best configuration I could afford. My GPU usage stays low during gaming, and my FPS is decent—around 250 in Valorant and about 180 in League at high settings. This seems manageable at first glance, but a friend with a similar build reported over 400 FPS in 4K on high settings. I’m wondering if the display cable or port could be affecting performance.

Try to take his cable and replicate his settings exactly. You shouldn't run into problems, but what does this mean? It sounds like someone is trying to be cautious while also noting a weaker version of something. "Similarly spec'd PC by a bit weaker" suggests they're comparing it closely. They're also suggesting he might be trying to avoid revealing too much. "You're hedging a little here" means they're being careful about what they say. The phrase "Why don't you post his specs so we can see what he has" implies sharing details would help clarify things. "Similar spec'd means jack shit" is emphasizing how different or inadequate the comparison is.

You didn’t verify in-game Framelimiter, VSync and refresh rates. These seem more like configuration issues rather than hardware faults. It’s also possible your RAM isn’t running at its full clock speed—maybe you forgot to enable D.O.C.P. last year.

I've verified the D.o.c.p and attempted to turn off g-sync and VSync. Framelimiters remain disabled for the games I usually play, even though I've slightly increased my RAM to 3733MHz. FPS haven't changed much. For your friend's setup, I don't recall it well, but he seems to have a current-gen i7 with the same RAM and an RTX 3080. The comparison has raised some doubts about my machine since I'm not seeing the expected performance.

I also performed a complete reset of the GPU drivers and added the newer versions.

through my research i discovered valorant is a game focused on single-thread optimization even with multithread enabled. this suggests the 12gen i7 might surpass your 3950x in performance. some user footage from a 3090 shows consistent results across resolutions. for more details see the comparison here: https://www.cpu-monkey.com/de/compare_cp..._i7_12700k

It seems the Nvidia control panel should be instructed to prioritize the GPU over the CPU. Ensure that the game you're playing isn't using integrated processing.

You're right, power choices can impact performance a lot. It might be worth exploring that angle further. Manufacturers often add their own power boosters that affect the whole setup.

I ran some tests just to verify things and it looks like the hardware is performing well within what I expected. Honestly, I’m running out of ideas. I checked the power settings, tried various configurations, and even made some adjustments myself. Overclocking didn’t help either. I also did a fresh install of the chipset drivers.
