Uncertain sobre mi cuello de botella (depende del uso de dx12/11 o Vulkan)
Hi,
I mostly play Path of Exile on a budget build: rx580, i3-10105, 16gb ram, Windows 10.
Lately my game performance has dropped a lot and I’m thinking about upgrading to an RX 6600.
Depending on the renderer I use in-game (dx12, dx11, Vulkan), either my CPU or GPU seems to be the limiting factor (consistently reaching 100% load).
I know my rx580 is usually the bottleneck, but since VE seems very CPU-heavy, I’m not sure what to do now.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
It looks like the performance was decent at first. If your hardware was adequate before, it might be that the system is now throttling, maybe because of heat or Windows having too many background processes. You should check these factors and consider a clean reinstall of Windows.
During troubleshooting I already replaced the CPU cooler, performed numerous reinstalls of Windows, and cleaned up many files. Also, POE is consistently improving and working on their engine—having too little hardware after a new patch or update isn't unusual, I think. Something worth noting? The TDP of my i3 is 65W and it only ever exceeds 50W consumption.
Check if the power plan in Windows runs at least 10% processor usage under balanced conditions. Determine whether it operates at full performance or maintains a minimal state.
Maximum CPU usage reaches 99%, which likely turns off CPU-u states, while minimum load varies randomly around 94%. Link-State-Management remains active and the System Cooling policy is enabled.
Hey there,
Let's skip the word 'bottleneck' for now. It's not really important. There will always be some part of the system that slows down.
It's fine if your GPU is running at full capacity. That means it's delivering as many frames per second as your CPU can provide. That's typical.
CPU usage varies. You have a solid enough CPU with 4 cores and 8 threads. If your CPU stays at 100%, you'll likely see stutters.
Ty for assisting
The game hasn't been played for over an hour during testing since the last Windows reinstall. Also, I'm handling the Vulkan shadercache through RAMDISK using my RAM, which did help somewhat. But it seems more like a temporary fix rather than solving the real issue
Basically, you wouldn't want your CPU to hit maximum load all the time. Are there any external elements beyond the CPU that might affect this? (CPU stays under 50°C and runs at 4200Mhz nonstop)
Yes, ideally. Additional possible reasons include the RAM. If there isn't sufficient memory, your system will resort to using a pagefile or swap file on storage, which is significantly slower than RAM. This may lead to stuttering. You can verify that RAM performance is normal with Memtest86+.
Other frequent sources of stuttering involve bugs in the system's BIOS. Occasionally, updating the BIOS can resolve the issue.
