Uncertain about compatibility of Zen+ 2700X RAM modules
Remember when I was building my current PC, a lot of people were talking that Ryzen was extremely picky about what RAM you were putting into it, that it had to be of Samsung B-Die. I picked 16GB of Corsair Dominator RAM sticks to which I set the XMP profiles to 3200 and been running at that speeds ever since. Can't remember my exact spec on my box but these seem very close . Will be upgrading my PC soon and I know that I'll be needing 32GB as 16GB is not even close to what I need. 32GB is already very little but that's the max that my motherboard allows . Was thinking of going 3600MHz to push the machine as much as I can but I've been reading that due to 1:1 vs 2:1 ratio magic or what nonsense, making it so that 3600MHz is actually slower than 3200MHz. Is that true? Can someone explain these ratios and so if I should stick to 3200MHz or am I free to push for something like 3600MHz? So then these B-Die's. Still confused on what they are and if they're needed. Looking online, these Neo 32 GB 3200MHz CL14 's seem to be the perfect fit or is it overkill? These are the go to's or am I safe to just select the cheapest 2x16 silicon something RAM sticks and they'll perform the same? Again, not going for any world records but definitely want to push as much juice out of this worn rig as I can. Looking online they're the correct B-Die, fast timings. Have I done my research right? TLDR: Zen+ B-Die needed? 3600MHz slower than 3200MHz?
Your system supports up to 64GB of RAM. If you require more, consider a 2x32GB package. Zen+ remains selective, but I’d rather grab whatever’s available besides Corsair. A 3600MHz ehilst will be a bit tricky on the 2700X, though it’s definitely achievable. I’ve tested a keyboard at that speed for a while at 3600MHz CL16; I had to enter the settings manually afterward. The board’s BIOS update later fixed that issue.
You notice the 64GB listing on ASUS and other platforms, but PCpartPicker shows a 32GB limit. There are updates suggesting some BIOS changes might expand RAM support. It seems the system can actually run the 5950X, which is a solid choice for the 2700X. You’ll need to check VRM compatibility before finalizing.
