Unattended significant performance issues and game stalls in Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
I've played this game for about five years, even after upgrading my system recently and continuing to play. There have been no performance problems before now. Recently, whenever I start the game, especially entering wooded areas or using the menus, I experience sudden lag. This issue appears without any driver updates or changes I remember making. Could you assist?
Are you using a standard hard drive or an SSD? If it's the former, you might need to defrag it; otherwise, it seems unusual. I'm not sure why it would start doing that. I've upgraded to the newest video drivers sometimes, which can cause problems and may require downgrading. If you're still using older drivers, updating them could help. Additionally, with two monitors, I often open Task Manager, go to the performance tab, run the game in another window, and then check how it behaves. Also, the XBox Gamebar app in Windows 10 (from the MS Store) includes a performance widget that I use to monitor game performance when I notice issues.
It's odd but several threads mentioned that Windows updates were linked to similar issues. I removed the most recent update, and performance improved for about ten minutes before it dropped again. Then I uninstalled the next one, and performance returned for another ten minutes. It's really strange...

I suspect this might be related to the latest video drivers. Sometimes they can cause problems and may require downgrading. If you're using older drivers, updating them could help.

However, it's more likely that the issue stems from Windows 10 itself. The recent feature update in May has led to many problems, such as browser freezes due to anti-virus software while browsing the web.
