I’m preparing a PC soon and discovered Windows 10 Pro would set you back about 200 dollars. Is it worth the extra cost? For a machine mainly used for gaming and studying, the downsides might include higher resource demands, potential performance limitations, and possible compatibility issues with certain games or software.

It's not worth 200. You can purchase it from the "grey" market or take advantage of free windows offered by your school. Alternatively, you could simply leave it inactive and display a watermark in the lower-right corner. Linux is another option if you prefer.

I suggest obtaining an OEM or System Builder key rather than a retail one. They cost significantly less and function identically, though you won’t be able to move the license to another device.

They need windows for Rocket League since Linux support was discontinued. Recording gameplay or streaming might display the watermark either on the home screen or during playback.
