In short: I'm using Windows 10 and my update tool is stuck. I can't get the OS updated. Don't bother trying to fix this—I've already tried everything. If you think you know a fix, I've already tested it. Now I'm stuck with two choices: either reinstall Windows 10 or 11, or download the actual installer from a list and run it manually. I'm unsure which version to pick since I don't have the right link. Also, installing from a media drive might erase all my data and programs. I'm worried about losing everything, but I don't want to risk it. Let me know if you can help.

You're experiencing problems with version 10 and trying to upgrade to 11 because your operating system is damaged beyond repair. The best option would be creating a bootable USB with version 10/11 and attempting the upgrade. If that fails, you'll need to erase the boot drive and start anew. Windows will automatically wipe any data on the drive. For versions other than 128GB RAM, sticking with Home x64 is sufficient unless you require more storage.

To avoid reinstalling, ensure your files are backed up before making changes. I upgraded to Windows 11 with the keep personal files feature but ended up losing a significant amount of data.
