Hey everyone, I made a copy of my HDD to an SSD so I could run Windows there and even boot from it. But I’m running into some issues. When I turn my PC on, I have to manually select the SSD by pressing F11 and enabling boot from there. I don’t want to do this every time. I checked my BIOS, went to the BBS Priorities section for Hard Disk Drive B, and set it as the first choice. Then I adjusted Boot Options to put my SSD first. That’s when the problem started. After applying and restarting, I get a “Reboot and select proper boot device” error. At first I thought maybe the partitions were mixed up during cloning, but then I realized I can boot directly from my SSD without any trouble. Anyone have a fix for this? Thanks!

Configure drive priority in a single location then set Windows Boot Loader as the first boot device. Ensure the hard drive is unplugged before proceeding.

I'll give it a shot. I'll note that manually booting via the SSD gives me the SSD Boot Manager P3 option, but when I enter BIOS settings I only see “HARD DISK SSD.” It seems the issue might be with how the BIOS recognizes the drive. When I press DELETE and enter BIOS, it doesn’t display “SSD Boot Manager P3.” I wonder why that happens. I suspect the HDD has a different boot manager option (P2) available in BIOS, while SSD Boot Manager P3 appears only when manually booting.

You need to adjust the drive priority settings. This is located separately from the boot order. Likely similar details are present elsewhere, but in a different section. In the boot order menu you can select options like "boot from hdd" or "boot from usb". When choosing "boot from hdd", it refers to selecting the first HDD on your priority list. F11 displays all available configurations, which explains why this method works.

I've already assigned my SSD as the top priority. Then I switched to the boot settings and turned on the HDD boot manager first, since there isn't a dedicated SSD manager. This should still get me started on my HDD.

I utilized a cloning tool. The initialization of your source and destination disks differed, possibly with one being GPT and the other MBR.

I relied on Macrium. If that’s the situation, what steps would be suggested? Be aware that a full system reset is something I’m comfortable with. If it’s the simplest choice, please let me know! Thanks!

You may need to restart Windows manually, then access Disk Management, capture a screenshot of all your drives, and verify the partition styles of both.

Both your HDD and SSD use GPT formatting.

Consider changing the SATA cables for both the HDD and SSD, provided you have them. The SSD should be connected as Disk 0.
