Unable to revert BIOS settings on Z490 Formula device.
I have this second-hand board with a 10900K. It was running BIOS 2103, and I was attempting to flash 1003 because it’s reported to have strong memory support for 10th gen chips. I’m constantly seeing “BIOS Not supported” when trying to read the file. Switching to BIOS 2603 fixed everything. When I tried again with 1003, the same issue persisted, even though 0901 says otherwise. It’s really frustrating. USB 3, can I just skip rolling back the BIOS?
2103 was the initial BIOS mentioned as compatible with 11th generation CPUs. I’ve noticed rollback being denied on other boards under two situations: a significant security patch and a newer CPU generation that could be unrelated, just speculation.
You have resources available to handle this task. Without understanding the specific chip used in the board, it adds some uncertainty to the challenge.
I tackled a similar issue on my Z390 Aorus Ultra with a basic fix, just using a tutorial. There aren’t many resources available, but I’ll start with a USB 2.0 stick since it might help. If you have any recommendations, it would be great. It’s frustrating how tightly things are restricted—I should be able to choose my own BIOS, but I already own the board.
It seems there might be some confusion. Most motherboards won’t prevent you from downgrading BIOS files. There are valid reasons why manufacturers might avoid this, such as compatibility or support concerns. The mention of Asus and the XII Formula appears to be a mix-up—Asus doesn’t list a 2603 BIOS for that model.
Sorry, the intended number was 2601. It seems users can't lower BIOS files. I own the board, so I decide if security updates are worth it. For me, an older BIOS with better memory management would be more useful, which also matched my approach for my Aorus board.
The guide you're looking for focuses on a ch341a, but it often overlooks verifying the voltage requirements for your EEPROM. You can usually locate the data sheets online. If the voltage is 1.8V, you'll need to figure out how to supply that exact voltage.
