I recently assembled my first PC and whenever I turned on XMP in the BIOS, it would display a black screen. To fix this, I removed the CMOS battery and restored the BIOS settings. After setting it to 3200 MHz, everything functions smoothly. Now I'm focused on boosting the performance of my 3600 MHz RAM. Do you have any advice? I'm at a loss with the options available. Here are my full PC details for your reference: Ryzen 7 5700G, RTX 3070, G.Skill Trident Z Royal 3600MHZ, 1 TB M.2 Samsung 970 EVO Plus, Gigabyte B550M Aorus Elite MATX, and Corsair CV 650 power supply.

Occasionally RAM doesn't operate at the advertised rate, but you might approach it by reducing the speed by one level from 3600. If that doesn't work, keep lowering it further. Continue this process until you find a suitable setting.

You likely need to initiate a return or replacement if the RAM isn't achieving its maximum XMP performance.

Are you utilizing the most recent motherboard BIOS versions? Upgraded BIOS releases often enhance performance, and "memory compatibility" is frequently among the improvements.

Based on your experience with AMD chips, a jump from 3200MHz to 3600MHz won't significantly boost performance. However, since you invested in the full 3600MHz model, you can return the RAM for a replacement if needed. If that's not possible, adjust certain settings manually to achieve speeds above 3200MHz. Refer to the XMP3600MHz and 3200MHz specifications, noting voltage, timing, and other details. Set intermediate values between them and test stability. Gradually raise the numbers toward 3600MHz until you notice issues like instability or failure to boot. After that, clear the CMOS and restore the last known stable configuration.

Uncertain about AMD systems, but I had to boost the memory controller voltage and increase its power for stability at faster memory rates. It didn’t boot well with XMP enabled by default. Consider trying a different approach to see if it improves performance.
