I just completed assembling my new PC. The BIOS started normally until I tried to install Windows 10 from a USB drive. The error appeared as spinning dots that stopped after one rotation and then froze. I looked online for solutions and believe the issue lies with the motherboard rather than the USB installation. I reinstalled the Windows bootloader on two different USB drives and even tried using a DVD, but the problem persisted each time. I've spent some time adjusting BIOS settings, turning XMP on and off, enabling and disabling Fast Boot and Fast Boot. Still unsure what I'm missing or what to try next. I considered a BIOS flash update, but worry it might brick the system if USB behavior remains consistent. I'm also concerned about losing my USB drive during the process. My motherboard model is MSI MPG Z390 Gaming Pro Carbon AC CPU, Intel i7 9700k, Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3200 RAM, 32GB SSD, Samsung 970 Pro MZ-V7P1T0BW 1TB M.2 drive. The screen freezes during boot. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I've already misplaced my USB drive in the process.
The only connections made were the USB boot, mouse, and keyboard. I attempted to use USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports. I plan to remove the mouse and keyboard and try booting again. The waiting feature didn’t help after an hour; it appears the device isn’t loading data from USB or DVD when freezing.
Already tried that. The first attempt failed, but the outcome remained consistent. As mentioned, even with a DVD boot it produced the same result. Yes. I used the Microsoft Media Creation Tool from their site.
Check the bios section and look for a button named 'load optimized defaults' or similar.
I attempted it. The only option available is Restore Defaults, which opens a prompt asking to Load Optimized Defaults. Unfortunately, it produces the same outcome after saving and restarting. Regarding the USB, it doesn't have to be Fat-32—it can also be NTFS.
I resolved the issue by completing three steps. 1: Updated the BIOS with M-flash. 2: Changed USB boot to NTFS instead of Fat-32. 3: Purchased a replacement USB drive. I believe the key fix came from updating the BIOS.
Truthfully, Windows 10 seems to have some issues. Even though it's nearly 2020, we're still dealing with problems when installing it. Five years into its release feels like a beta test, and I can't install it on my MSI Ge62 laptop. It copies everything over, restarts, but then freezes on the MSI logo again. Using a Windows 7 ISO works perfectly. It's frustrating to lose time because of these bugs from Microsoft.
I verified that updating the BIOS resolved the problem on this motherboard. I spent a long day struggling with a clean Windows install, getting stuck at multiple points.
