On my earlier B550 board I only needed to adjust the CPU core voltage from auto to normal and set DVID to -0.060v, but my Ryzen 5 5600X would still undervolt. I tried a Gigabyte Aorus X870 Elite (BIOS F3j) with an R5 9600X and followed a YouTube guide: activating PBO, setting Curve Optimizer to all cores, curve optimizer sign to negative, magnitude to 20. Still no undervolt when running Prime95 and checking stats via hwinfo. Why is this happening? What might I have missed?

I changed the settings twice. First I used the vcore option, but it didn’t help. Then I switched to the curve optimizer, and still nothing.

After trimming the curve by 20%, I'm still getting 1.8V. I need a traditional undervolt like on an old R5 5600X. How much should I lower the voltage limits? I'm just starting out with this process.

Traditional undervolting isn't advised for the latest Ryzen processors. If you're using the 9600X with default settings, you're likely set at PPT 88W, TDC 75A, and EDC 150A. To boost performance, especially in the 5000 series, it's best to reduce TDC and EDC—at least compared to the 5000 lineup. Since those numbers are much higher than PPT, it makes sense you're seeing this outcome. I wasn't aware AMD was mainly using PPT alone for power control on the 9000 series. Unless the design is significantly different from the 5000s, that's not optimal for performance or efficiency. PPT acts as a basic power cap, telling the CPU not to exceed 88W. TDC and EDC represent longer-term and short-term current limits. Since I don't own a 9600X, I can't confirm the ideal settings, but you might start by lowering TDC to 60A and EDC to 90A—the defaults for the 5600X. If that still isn't enough, keep adjusting downward. Still, I wonder—what are your goals? Are you aiming for higher performance, less heat, lower energy use, or longer device life?

Reduced energy consumption and temperatures... especially on the final CPU. It was easy to lower the voltage, but now it feels really tricky.
