Hello there, welcome back. I understand this might have come up before. I’m trying to switch back to Windows 8.1 Pro from Windows 10, but when I try to install, I see a choice about whether to install updates. I’ve tried both options already. The first one looks for updates and says it will restart, but it just closes. The second option shows a picture instead. Could you help? My English is still working, but I’m sorry for the mistakes. It’s 4 in the morning and my grammar is not great.

The failure occurred during the installation phase. Are you using a disc or a thumb drive to install the OS?

From the beginning, it wasn't just an ISO on my hard drive. That made sense since it didn’t function properly after upgrading from Windows 7 to 8.1 and then to Windows 10.

Initially, just an ISO on my hard drive wouldn't suffice. That's why it functioned differently when I upgraded from Windows 7 to 8.1 and then to Windows 10. Would you expect a varied outcome if I used a USB drive instead?

Restart the machine and access the CMOS configuration while it initializes. Once the setup is loaded, allow the system to run quietly for a short time. If the computer fails to restart after this period and you've already checked other fixes on this page, reinstalling Microsoft Windows may be necessary.
