Unable to install or upgrade ASUS BIOS on the motherboard.
Hello everyone, I recently purchased a new motherboard for my sister's PC (Asus M5a97 evo r2.0). Upon startup, it consistently checks the memory, which means pressing F1 is required to access BIOS—even after rebooting, it doesn’t verify memory again unless the PSU is flipped at power-on. It powers up immediately when I switch the PSU on. This behavior seems unusual since there’s no BIOS setting that triggers booting right after power-up. Based on what I’ve observed, it appears the BIOS might be modified. Although the logo still shows up during boot, it doesn’t seem to be a genuine ROG Asus board. After resetting the BIOS through BIOS settings and adjusting CMOS pins, the logo remains intact. Setting RAM parameters in BIOS always reverts to defaults due to the memory check, though other settings stay altered.
My main concern is whether this issue stems from a modified BIOS rather than a hardware problem. I’ve tried updating or downgrading the BIOS to see if the memory-check bug persists, but it keeps showing a “Security verification failed” error in EZFlash. I’ve tested multiple BIOS versions from 2301 to 2603, but the problem remains consistent across all of them.
I’m unsure if this is just a BIOS issue or if there’s a deeper motherboard fault. Should I replace the BIOS chip? How can I install the original .CAP file without errors? Would modifying the original board help? I appreciate your understanding and any advice you can offer—I really want this setup to work.
That board isn't an ROG-mobo, which means it likely has a customized BIOS. Your problems might just stem from that change. You should either swap in a chip with a genuine original BIOS or flash the right BIOS yourself using a BIOS-flasher, or have someone else handle it for you.
The BIOS setup doesn't appear to have a ROG-themed interface. It seems the seller likely used ASUS's MyLogo feature within the AI Suite, which is a recognized option. Changing it to a ROG logo may not be possible once installed, as the custom logo would be embedded in the BIOS file. You can check the BIOS settings or System Information to confirm what the board reports. If it shows M5A97 EVO R2.0, you might have downloaded the incorrect version.
Transitioned to CPU designs, motherboard configurations, and memory systems.
The BIOS doesn't include a ROG-themed interface. Are there any ASUS motherboards that feature the ROG logo without the BIOS having a ROG-themed design? When reviewing the BIOS version details (such as AIDA64), it shows 1.0000 and lists the board as M5A97 R2.0, which matches your photo. It seems the BIOS is correctly identified as M5A97 R2.0 EVO. You downloaded the correct BIOS, confirmed the board model, and even checked the flashing process. If you decide to change the logo and reset the BIOS, it doesn’t seem to alter the settings.
I previously performed a BIOS flash on an MSI board since it lacked EZFlash; I used FreeDOS via USB, but the same method didn’t apply now. I adjusted my approach then, and I’m just making a mistake. Also, converting the .CAP file to .ROM caused an ASF missing report if I’m correct.
